Upcycled Totes
Ongoing Project
When I first learned how to sew, I made personalized tote bags for all of my friends. Eventually, I started selling them at local art sales and they were a hit. I love the simplicity, functionality, and style of a good tote bag. Over the years I’ve made a couple that I’m fond of using unique upcycled fabrics.
The Thomson Tote
Thomson makes high-end bicycle components which all come in a protective bag. A local bike mechanic asked me if I had any use for a bag full of Thomson bags, so I pulled them all apart and sewed them together as one bag, paying special attention to the alignment of all of the graphics. The end result was a bag I’ve used regularly for the past three years.
Coffee Sack Tote
While working as a barista, I collected several beautiful burlap sacks for storing green coffee beans. This is a print medium that most people don’t see, oftentimes decorated with intricate designs. When paired with a liner, these jute fibers make the perfect casual bag for coffee lovers.
