Maximalist Chore Jacket

This project began with two themes, “storage” and “sustainable design.” I interpreted the first theme as a jacket that serves as an alternative to a backpack, with many pocket options for storing anything you’d store in a small daypack. For the second theme, I decided to use fabric scraps from my collection, so my limitation for this project was no new materials.

Brainstorming Pockets

Before committing to a design, I drew up various pockets and taped them onto a jacket to get an idea of how they would look and what the dimensions should be.

Muslin Prototype

Using muslin, I sewed together a prototype. This helped me understand what changes I needed to make for the perfect fit and allowed me to experiment with different pocket designs.
